REALTOR® vs. Real Estate Agent: What’s the Difference and Why it Matters

A REALTOR® is a licensed real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), a trade organization for real estate agents. REALTOR® adhere to a strict code of ethics and have access to additional training and resources through the NAR.

A real estate agent, on the other hand, is a licensed professional who helps clients buy, sell, or rent properties. They may or may not be members of the NAR and may or may not adhere to the NAR’s code of ethics.

In essence, all REALTOR® are real estate agents, but not all real estate agents are realtors. The key difference between the two is that REALTOR® are bound by a code of ethics and have access to additional resources and training.
